Don’t throw in the towel!
The thing is that a good number of business owners fail to see when and how things start to go in the wrong direction. Later (sometimes too late) they realize that they cannot stay the same and that change is an inevitable action. Too often though the understanding that change is required and that necessary action has to be taken comes at a time when the business owner has lost heart for the business and confidence in what they do. The Broker of the Future must regain heart and confidence, and take the necessary action before the owner throws in the towel. (Carlos J Martinez)
When the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change you will take the necessary actions to make the necessary change…or will you?
While the market is coming back, many of our brokerages still struggle to keep the lights on. We all know it will not be the same as before. The Broker of the Future will need to find their heart for the business and then the real work can begin!
Have you ever tried to go back to your high school sweetheart, first love, your class reunion? Maybe you want to go back to your old favorite restaurant, hangout or hometown to get back to the good ‘ole days. We remember good times as we want to remember them⎯and there’s nothing wrong with that. However, sometimes on the journey back things are not what you expected. Everything is changed and nothing seems the same. You are disheartened and feel like giving up.
The reason for that change is growth. We have grown up, our expectations have been altered and now we must find a new way to be us in the world.
Can you see the similarity between what happens in life has happened in the real estate industry? The internet has changed the expectations of what consumers want and need. Some brokers have let time stand still and now struggle to survive using outdated business practices and obsolete technology. Some may have forgotten why they got in this business in the first place.
It’s time to REVIEW the reason you got here, and it’s time to RENEW your heart for the business. Once that is done you will be able to REinvent yourself and your company so that you can create value and support for your agents and consumers. When that happens, something magical will happen ⎯your REinvented brand will outperform your competitors. Market position, profit and success!
As with everything in life, change can be difficult but it is a necessity. In the long term, change typically is a positive thing – especially professionally!
