As the Internet Marketing Consultant for PCMS Consulting, I thought it would be an exciting activity to post both the good and bad from behind the scenes, as I take a brand new website and fully develop and optimize the website for high organic search engine optimization placement.
What is internet marketing, and why does it matter?
Internet Marketing is the process of increasing the amount of visitors to a website by ranking high in the search results pages of a search engine such as Google or Yahoo. The higher your website ranks in the search results, the greater the opportunity that a user will visit your website. It is common practice for internet searchers to not click through multiple pages of search results, so a well-ranking website is essential for directing more traffic, sales, leads and profits to your business.
Will PCMSConsulting.com make it to page one in page ranking?
There are over 200 factors Google considers when it determines if a website is worthy of a first page ranking. There are no short cuts and what worked a couple of years ago will not work today. In early November I preformed extensive research to uncover the current keywords the website was ranking for, along with analyzing the website traffic to uncover opportunities and provide a solid foundation and road map for the internet marketing project.
From September 2008 through November 2008 there were a total of 810 visitors to the website.
After a thorough investigation into the competition, extensive keyword discovery, website validation, content examination and several other determining factors I arrived with a personalized internet marketing plan for PCMSConsulting.com. The individualized internet marketing plan became our road map for our internet marketing journey. I hope you find this internet marketing journey as interesting and fun as I am having working on this project. At the end of February we will release the websites new stats along with internet marketing tasks we preformed this month. Stay tuned.
Internet Marketing Services always need to start with a solid foundation. Like a house, if the foundation is cracked, the rest of the house will suffer. This month our internet marketing plan included checking the foundation of pcmsconsulting.com. We reviewed website errors, accessibility, compatibility, compliance, search, standards and usability.
- THE BAD: we uncovered some 404 redirects (not good), a few url title lengths that exceeded best practices, and a few broken links.
- THE GOOD: Overall, the website has a solid foundation! B+ score. Next month we will have an A+, I am sure!
Of course we are fixing all issues uncovered doing this process. Next month we will have an SEO friendly foundation for PCMSConsulting.com. But most important….have we increased traffic? YES! The Business and Real Estate Consulting website enjoyed almost 60% increased traffic since 2008. When SEO is done correctly the rewards to the website owner can be substantial.
